How to cancel Firefox Update

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Have you accidentally clicked Check for Updates under Firefox Help menu or want to cancel the update after realizing you really don’t need to update Firefox? Restarting firefox won’t cancel the update.

To cancel the update:

close Firefox first

Go to c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\applications\mozilla

look for active_update (xml file) then delete it….

Thanks, I don’t have a c: drive so how how do I cancel Firefox update on a MacBook. I use hotmail so I needed it. Now my computer shuts down when Firefox is on the desktop.

Thanks. This worked great except for the fact that the relevant directory is slightly different on my computer. It is C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox

maybe the easiest method is to search for the file then deleter it.. the file to search is active_update.xml

active-update.xml rather than active_update.xml
